Q: What is happening?

A: On June 1st, 2018, we will no longer be offering free Lycos Mail accounts.

Q: What options are available for free Lycos Mail users?

A: You can either upgrade to a premium account or you can download your existing email messages. By downloading your email messages, they will be available to you offline for archival purposes in perpetuity. If you do not upgrade, after June 1, your email messages will no longer be available through webmail, POP, or IMAP, and you will not receive new emails.

Q: How do I sign up for a premium Lycos Mail account?

A: Log in to Lycos Mail, and go here: https://registration.lycos.com/payment.php?m_PR=27&m_UP=1

Q: If I already have a premium Lycos Mail account, do I need to do anything?

A: No. However you do need to make sure your billing information is correct. If there is a billing issue, you will have a 60 day grace period to update your billing information.

Q: What are the benefits of a premium Lycos Mail account?

A: In addition to being able to continue using your Lycos Mail address, premium accounts come with 5 GB storage, POP and IMAP access, and webmail access without ads.

Q: How much do premium accounts cost?

A: We offer three plans for Lycos Mail: $4.95 per month, $19.95 per year, or $49.95 per 3 years.

Q: How can I download my email before the transition?

A: You’ll need to use an email client such as Thunderbird, Outlook, Mac Mail, or Windows 10 Mail. Follow the instructions for Cluster B and the POP3 protocol. Do not use IMAP since it will not download your messages’ contents.

Q: Can I export my address book contacts?

A: Yes. Login to your account through webmail. Click on the Address Book tab, and then click on the Export button.

Q: How long do I have to download my email if I don’t wish to upgrade to premium?

A: Until June 1st.

Q: If I forward my Lycos Mail email to another email address, how will this affect me?

A: If you have a free Lycos Mail account that forwards to an external email address, the Lycos Mail address will stop receiving and forwarding on June 1. You can either transition any contacts or services that send to your Lycos Mail address to use your other email address, or you can upgrade your Lycos Mail account to premium to keep the forwarding in place.

Q: What happens after June 1st?

A: If you upgrade to a premium account or already have one, there will be no changes to your service. If you do not upgrade your account, your email will no longer be accessible.

Q: Why are you doing this?

A: Providing mailboxes costs us money, and we no longer make enough from ads to support the cost of the mailboxes.

Q: If I wish to close and delete my Lycos Mail account, do I need to do anything?

A: No, if you choose not to upgrade, your account will automatically be deleted on June 1st.
